What’s the point of performance management?

Does performance management in your organisation engage your people…  or demotivate them?

Performance Management may seem like a step up from appraisals but many organisations are still wasting this opportunity to engage and motivate their people.

Is it time for you to make a fresh start?

  • Do your managers understand how to use performance management to engage and motivate individuals in their teams?
  • Does performance management in your organisation enable managers to generate conversation and discussion or focus them on completing paperwork and following a process?
  • Do managers spend more time managing the poor performers, the disengaged and the disloyal and less time with the people they rely on and trust?
  • Is the purpose and intent of your performance management process consistently applied?

If you don’t feel able to answer these questions with a confident yes then your performance management system could probably do with an update.

Start by asking what the business wants to achieve from performance management and then if the business (and the people are in it) is able, ready and willing to make the changes you need.

If performance management is working really well for you it would be great if you could share your experience and thoughts to help others make their processes more engaging?

Changes like this don’t happen overnight – if you need support or encouragement designing or embedding performance management in your business please get in touch.
