Show your appreciation you must

Show your appreciation you must

Cast your mind back over the last 5 days. How many times would you say you showed someone at work you appreciated them?

How many times did you say something to somebody about something they did (at work or home) that you disagreed with. How many times did you pass comment on something they did ‘right’?

We all want to feel that we/the work we do is appreciated and unsuprisingly we will do more for those people who show that they appreciate us.  An experiment conducted by Adam Grant and Francesca Gino also found that when you thank someone for their help, it makes them more likely to help again in the future. Showing appreciation makes people happier and more resilient too.

In our experience while many leaders acknowledge how important it is they don’t show their appreciation as much as they should. We may think we do but most often these thoughts are not translated in to actions – at least not in a meaningful or visible way to the intended recipient.

People like to feel valued, that their efforts were meaningful and that you noticed. Tell them.

Showing your appreciation doesn’t cost money and it doesn’t take much time to do.

Here’s the latest bit of appreciation we received from one of our clients;

“We asked People Essentials to support us with running an employee engagement survey and found the level of service at all stages of the project outstanding.  Michelle really listened to our brief and worked with us to ensure we developed questions that would drive real insight into employee engagement levels across the business.  The amount of time and effort Michelle invested ahead of the survey launch meant that we had total confidence the survey would be well received and this was reflected in our response levels.  Michelle delivered the survey results in an easy to understand format and gave suggestions about key areas to focus on as well as insights into how to benchmark the results.  I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend People Essentials as a specialist engagement survey provider.”
